● Why do I have to link too Winki to be listed ?
The Winki directory is based around a mutual sharing of relevant links.
Many sites contain links that either are not relevant, don't work or the site
has stopped linking. We feel that if we link to your site, then a reciprocal
link should be made.
We ask you to simply copy the supplied link for the
particular section you wish to be included in. By simply clicking that link,
once it's installed on your web site, will inform Winki that you have made a
link. We will then email the editor of the related section, and ask him to
check the link for "relevancy". If all is ok then your link will become live
on our site. Should you alter the link in such a way that is
unrecognisable by us or simply remove it, your page will be automatically
removed from the directory.
Putting a Winki directory listing on your "links page" is fine, but remember,
we will only send traffic to that page, so choose the location of your Winki
directory link carefully ! A more beneficial way for all sites is to perhaps
try and include the link on all pages "via an include" this ensures a good
visibility and should gain you "positional bonus !!" - see next item...
Please remember once you have put the code on your site,
to click the link from your site !!! (otherwise we wont know your out there !)
● How do I get my web site listed higher in the
related sub-category ?
Listing order is initially governed by first come first served, but a
further way to increase your prominence, is inbound links. The more people you
send to Winki, the more we will show our appreciation. So the more pages you
can add the Winki link too, the better !
● What happens if my link in the directory shows as "DEAD" link ?
Don't worry if this happens. If your server was overloaded or down for a
short time, while our Auto-Bot visited, the bots will re-visit at another time
and re-enable your link.
● Why does my web site get listed with a strange description ?
The description will usually come from the meta tags on your web site, but
if these are not present, then the Auto-Bot will grab text from the web page.
Simply add the following META TAG "description" to the header section of your
web page to get your page described properly ! - see below for example :-
<meta name="description" content="My site is
all about...Widgets and what they offer...">
<title>My site - The greatest site for
finding widgets !!</title>
● Can I alter how the link looks and how it opens (new window for example)
Yes, we have allowed a certain amount of flexibility with the Winki link...
the link can contain a TARGET="" for opening in another frame
and a CLASS="" for allowing you to format the link to blend with the rest of
● How do I become an editor and what's involved ?
Anyone with a new type of Sub-Category has the chance to become the editor
for that section. An editor is a person that will be responsible for
looking at the requesting sites and making sure that they are relevant to the
section. They have their own login section and maintain a list of links.
Editors have the power to Accept, Delete or Block a site. (Duplicate sites can
also be flagged, which means that someone is trying to get more than one link
in the sub-category)
If we feel the editor has abused his position, and has been unfair to other
sites, we can remove the editor and delegate to another.
Once in a while you may notice a section has no Editor, and this could be your
time to make your mark !
